Job Title: Enrolled Midwife
Reports to: Clinical Officer
Staff reporting to this post: Nursing Assistants
Liaises with: Medical Doctor, Counsellors, HIV Focal Person, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Midwives Project Officers, Area Manager, Zonal Community Support Officer and Nutritionist
Duty Station: Kyangwali Refugee Settlement
Job Summary: To provide midwifery services that include family planning, MCH and health education to support and encourage a healthy living culture within the target population.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide ante-natal and post natal services to mothers.
Provide comprehensive MCH services to mothers during and after pregnancy identifying high risk cases and providing corrective actions/advice.
Manage and supervise performance of the direct reports
Coach, capacity build and provide mentorship to the direct reports
In charge of the midwifery services at the health facility that include assisting deliveries, cleaning new
born and their mothers, tagging new born, etc.
Ensure new born babies are immunized on time following proper prepared schedules
Ensure new born babies are properly labelled, cleaned and kept warm
Provide counselling to new mothers to allay any fears and anxiety, ensure proper breastfeeding, and
observe hygiene and health education on prevention of infections.
Participate in PHC activities that include health education, MCH activities and nutrition programmes.
Register and prepare birth notifications for all births, monitor and report on the general health condition of the mother and the new born.
Maintain personal contact with patients, take note of their complaints, carry out corrective measure and escalate for further action if necessary.
Carry out family planning, PMTCT and HCT services.
Carry out health education and ensure continuous improvement in midwifery service provision
Compile reproductive/child health data and submit reports to the supervisor for monitoring and setting shared targets for planning.
Prepare and submit progress reports covering the areas of operation.
Manage patients with confidentiality and adherence to the professional code of conduct.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervision
QUALIFICATIONS
A certificate in Midwifery studies(3yrs)
A certificate of enrolment from the national nursing body
At least 2 years’ experience in similar or higher position.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
A good command of both written and spoken English
Patient, understanding and of a pleasant character
Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office
People Management skills
Able to capacity build and develop others
Ability to mobilize different audiences
Commitment to the organizational values
