Saferworld Project Background:
Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. The Uganda Programme is managed by the Head of S/Sudan and Great Lakes Programme, based in Saferworld’s office in Kampala.Saferworld’s Uganda programme aims to contribute to more effective responses to community peace and security needs by national and international actors, through working on conflict-sensitive development and community security issues, particularly in Northern Uganda and Karamoja.
Currently, the biggest project in Saferworld’s Uganda programme is the Advisory Consortium on Conflict Sensitivity (ACCS), which focuses on strengthening the ability of key stakeholders in the UK DFID-funded Post Conflict Development Programme (PCDP) for Northern Uganda to effectively address the drivers of conflict and contribute to building peace through their interventions. Consequently, the geographic focus of the ACCS project is targeted districts in Northern Uganda and to some extent, Karamoja.

Job Purpose: The Project Adviser will take the lead on providing high quality conceptual and methodological input for Saferworld’s ACCS team, and ensuring high quality written outputs, including advocacy briefings, issue papers, research reports and lessons learned documents.

Duties & Responsibilities:
a.    Lead on designing and implementing conflict analysis and research methodologies and conceptual frameworks
Detail actions:

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Essential requirements:
·         A Master’s Degree in development studies, international relations, peace and conflict studies, or a relevant political or social science discipline - or equivalent professional experience
·         A minimum of three years relevant conflict prevention, conflict sensitivity, peacebuilding or development experience working with governments, non-governmental organisations and/or research institutions,  preferably in Uganda
·         Demonstrated participatory research and methodological design experience on peace, conflict and/or development issues
·         Excellent research and writing skills in English with proven ability to pay attention to details and stick to deadlines
·         Good knowledge of conflict and security issues in Uganda, especially the areas targeted under the PRDP and relevant policy frameworks as well as the way government decision-making processes work
·         Good understanding of and experience in engaging with civil society and governments, networking and capacity building.
·         Ability to work on his/her own, with proven track record of working effectively as part of a team with demonstrated organisational skills.
·         Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a non-partisan manner appreciating cultural and ethnic diversity.
