Saferworld Project Background:
Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. ·         Design conceptual and analytical frameworks for specific pieces of conflict analysis and research
·         Lead on implementation of such research processes as appropriate
·         Maintain collaborative and mutual learning relationships with ACCS project team, ACCS partners and Saferworld’s designated Senior Conflict Adviser in London
b.    Lead on developing an advocacy strategy and producing high quality written advocacy outputs
Detail actions:
·         Monitoring policy debates within Uganda and internationally to identify advocacy and policy input opportunities, drawing on ACCS programme activities
·         Writing, editing and/or commissioning policy briefs, issue papers, lessons learned documents and other written products to ensure ACCS activities are impacting on policy decisions within Uganda and policy thinking internationally
·         With the ACCS project team, identify thematic and methodological learning from the project that can be shared with national and international policy makers
·         Maintain collaborative relationship with Advocacy team in London
c.    Contribute to development and implementation of the ACCS project work plans and strategies
Detail actions:
·         Under leadership of the Project Manager, contribute to quarterly and annual planning for ACCS activities – within Saferworld and with consortium and external partners as applicable
·         Support implementation of ACCS activities as necessary, including research, advocacy events, training workshops and providing input on strategies and work plans of partners
d.    Contribute to developing monitoring and evaluation systems and products
Detail actions:
·         Contribute (with ACCS Project Coordinator and Project Manager) to deepening and expanding systems for monitoring project progress and impact, and collecting appropriate information for this purpose
e.     Assist in representing Saferworld within the consortium and externally
Detail actions:
·         In consultation with the Project Manager, represent Saferworld, as delegated, in meetings and workshops with project stakeholders and donors, including civil society organisations, local government bodies, decision-making bodies on the Peace and Recovery Plan for Northern Uganda, etc
f.      Assist in donor reporting and fundraising
Detail actions:
·         Contribute to funding proposals and donor reports to the project donor

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Essential requirements:
·         A Master’s Degree in development studies, international relations, peace and conflict studies, or a relevant political or social science discipline - or equivalent professional experience
·         A minimum of three years relevant conflict prevention, conflict sensitivity, peacebuilding or development experience working with governments, non-governmental organisations and/or research institutions,  preferably in Uganda
·         Demonstrated participatory research and methodological design experience on peace, conflict and/or development issues
·         Excellent research and writing skills in English with proven ability to pay attention to details and stick to deadlines
·         Good knowledge of conflict and security issues in Uganda, especially the areas targeted under the PRDP and relevant policy frameworks as well as the way government decision-making processes work
·         Good understanding of and experience in engaging with civil society and governments, networking and capacity building.
·         Ability to work on his/her own, with proven track record of working effectively as part of a team with demonstrated organisational skills.
·         Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a non-partisan manner appreciating cultural and ethnic diversity.
Desirable Requirements:
·         Facilitation or training skills would be an advantage
·         Direct experience working on the PRDP at a policy or programming level would be an advantage
Terms and Conditions
Annual salary range; UGX 66,000,000/= - 78,000,000/=gross, plus benefits
Leave entitlement:  28 days per  year and public holidays
