JOB CONTEXT:

Uganda aspires to be a middle income country by 2040 but in spite of two decades of progress, continued growth has not benefited everyone. In the north, 46% of the population still lives in poverty; nationally, rural areas remain much poorer than towns. Uganda has the third highest population growth rate in the world, which stretches its government's ability to provide services such as drugs in health facilities. HIV/AIDS is resurgent, with over 130,000 new HIV infections in 2010. Sharp gender inequalities persist. Currently, we are running two projects in Uganda:

    Victim assistance project in the west (Kasese)
    OPEN project (inclusive employment) in Kampala If fundings are secured, this inclusive education project would enable a 30 months visibility and our presence in the field of disability in Uganda, and facilitate the development/promotion of our expertise in victim assistance in its other areas of intervention.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The 'Access to quality education for all - ATTEND' project will support 420 marginalised girls in Makindye district. This Inclusive Education project has been elaborated in close coordination with all relevant stakeholders involved in the field of education and disability. An important stake of the project will be to keep coordinating with these various project partners in order to mainstream disability within their activities at both national and local level. Under the supervision of the Head of Mission you will implement the project and as any new project a full team will need to be recruited and trained in order to carry out successfully planned activities.

You will be responsible for:

    Overall management of this project
    Management of the project team
    Coordination with the partner
    Ensure the operational implementation of the project in accordance with the organisation / donor standards and regulations
    Manage the inclusive education team in Uganda
    Represent Handicap International and promote all aspects of our mandate in Uganda
    Participate to the development of our activities

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

In order to be selected on this role you will have:

    Masters degree in education, education management or other related fields.
    At least 4 years experience managing projects in the following sectors : Basic education, Special need education or Disability
    Competencies in Standard Project Management

REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS:

English mandatory (oral and written), French a plus.

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

The security situation in Kampala is stable and very quite. Kampala has all facilities you can find in a big city is the important town of North Uganda. Living conditions are good enough, with access to all essential basic foods and goods; 70% of the time electricity and running water.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

(depending on your experience) This position can be accompanied

Salary: between 2000� to 2400 � gross salary/month (depending on experience) + 457 Euros net/month expatriation allowance + 50% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance + indemnity for children and partner Or Volunteer: 750 or 850 Euros monthly indemnity + living allowance paid on the field + accommodation + 100% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance + indemnity for children and partner
