Duration of Tenure
This offer of employment is for a period of four years, subject to satisfactory periodic
performance reviews by the Board of Directors.
Position in RENU
The Chief Executive Officer, under the supervision of the Board of Directors, plays the leading role
in shaping RENU’s strategic direction, development, and future growth. The Chief Executive
Officer of RENU, in partnership with the Board of Directors, is responsible for the success of
RENU. Together, the Board and Chief Executive Officer assure RENU’s relevance to its members,
the accomplishment of RENU’s mission and vision, and the accountability of RENU to its diverse
stakeholders. The Board delegates responsibility for management and daytoday
operations to
the Chief Executive Officer, who has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance
with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Chief Executive Officer provides
direction and enabling to the Board as it carries out its governance functions.
The Terms and Conditions of Employment
The Terms and Conditions of your engagement in the Research and Education Network for Uganda
will be as follows:

i. You will be a full time member of RENU staff.
ii. Your working day will be 8.00 am to 5.00 pm (with lunch break from 1.00 pm to 2.00
pm) Mondays to Fridays except on Official Public Holidays.
iii. You will be entitled to 30 days of leave in each calendar year of employment
Compensation
The compensation for this appointment will be as follows:
i. The salary attached to this job is commensurate with responsibilities and subject to
periodic reviews by the Board.
ii. You will be entitled to a contributory retirement benefits scheme within the employment
laws of Uganda.
iii. No other compensation will be payable unless approved by the Board of Directors.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Chief Executive Officer and you will be reporting to the Chairman of the Board of Directors in
the execution of your duties, and will responsible for establishing the RENU corporate vision and
leading all aspects of the RENU’s corporate development. You will be in charge of administration
and management of RENU and oversee the implementation of the strategic and operational plans
of RENU.
Your specific duties and responsibilities will among others include:
Strategy and Planning
i. Lead the execution of business and technology strategy for service delivery platforms,
partnerships, and external relationships.
ii. Provide visible leadership for RENU within the NREN community.
iii. Anticipate and react to major strategic and technology changes to ensure the
maintenance of RENU leadership in the competitive landscape.
iv. Establish technical standards and ensure adherence to them for RENU operations
v. Evaluate and identify appropriate business and technology platforms for delivering
RENU’s services.
Implementation and Deployment
i. Lead strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing
development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development, and
deployment of all RENU services.
ii. Lead in establishing governance processes of direction and control to ensure that
objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately and RENU’s resources are used
2 responsibly, particularly in the areas of software development, office networks and
computers, and telecommunications
iii. Direct development and execution of a RENU information security plan that protects the
confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the RENU’s data and servers.
iv. Direct development and execution of a RENU disaster recovery and business continuity
plan.
Operational Management
i. Communicate RENU’s technology strategy to development partners, management, staff,
members, and stakeholders
ii. Share knowledge, mentor, and educate RENU’s management, staff, partners, members,
and stakeholders with regard to the RENU vision, opportunities, and challenges.
iii. Establish standards of performance and monitor conformance for staff (through
performance review) and vendors (through service level agreements).
iv. Harness team building and interpersonal relationships to achieve targets
Other Areas of Strategic Leadership
i. Implement the Board’s policy decisions and business plan in a results oriented and timely
manner to achieve the RENU’s vision, goals, objectives and agreed performance targets.
ii. Ensure that sound professional management practices are entrenched in the activities of
RENU.
iii. Build a high performing team driven by a performance culture and ensure that RENU has
talent and people to support its current and future plans.
iv. Develop and maintain effective relationships and management of stakeholders, RENU
members and employees to ensure efficiency, RENU members satisfaction, compliance and
management of costs within budget.
v. Analyze growth and development opportunities for RENU and present these opportunities
to the Board of Directors
vi. Prepare annual budget and ensure that all expenses remain within budget.
vii.Promote einclusion
especially of RENU members in isolated locations..
viii. Ensure transparency and accountability in and sustainability of RENU.
ix. Prepare accurate and timely reports for submission to the board and stakeholders as and
when required.
x. Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations relevant to RENU.
Qualifications and Experience
· At least a Masters Degree in a field allied to technology, engineering or business
management.

· Demonstrated ability to innovate, develop and implement new business products,
especially products that are ICT–enabled for supporting collaborative working and learning
environments
· Experience with demonstrated outcomes in institutional development at strategic
management level
· Excellent leadership skills including the ability to lead teams.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Experience in writing proposals for funding and capacity building.
· Understand and be able to intelligently tap into information communication technologies
to find solution
· Prior exposure to the workings of NRENs or to collaborative teaching, learning and
research is desirale.

Understanding of Business, Government and Industry Processes
· Demonstrates an indepth
knowledge of, and experience in, local and national
government, business and ICT industry processes and decisionmaking,
and
accountability principles related to machinery of government.
· Astute able
to read situations aptly and exhibit sound judgment.
· Understands how people work and has a positive nonthreatening
presence which
commands respect from staff, members, and stakeholders.
