Salary and Benefits: Scale R3: Entry point negotiable [US$ 25,872 – 27,424) Per Annum (p. a),
 and other benefits as per the Organization’s Service regulations.
Age Limit: 35 – 50 years.

BRIEF JOB INTRODUCTION:

The Chief Research Officer (CRO) serves as a principal assistant to the Director with responsibility
for the overall initiation, planning, organization and direction of all approved scientific research relevant
to the DLCO-EA regional activities. Specific areas of responsibility are outlined below; however,
 he/she may be required to perform other duties which may be delegated to him/her by the Director.
 
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, directs and supervises all scientific research activities undertaken by the Organization and ensures the issuance of technical reports.
2. Liaises with institutions/bodies within and outside the region in matters pertaining to DLCOEA research activities.
3. Coordinates with Director to conduct special operational activities for research purposes.
4. Coordinates preparation of working papers for Technical Committee meetings and acts as Technical Secretary for such meetings.
5. Plans and coordinates training programmes with the Divisions of Administration and Finance to ensure that all research personnel are proficient in their assigned duties.
6. Develops and improves pest management techniques for the mandated migrant pests (Locusts, army worms, quelea birds and tsetse flies).
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:        
1. PhD in Entomology from a recognized University with at least 5 years post-qualification experience,
OR a Masters Degree in Entomology from an accredited University, with at least 10 years post qualification experience in leading or directing research programmes or projects in the field of
Plant Protection.
2. Ability to work in harmony with people of different national and cultural backgrounds is highly desirable.
3. Be computer literate and proficient in data collection analysis and report writing.
