Job Title: Project Director, Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative, Uganda

Position Summary:/ IREX is currently seeking a Project Director for a Youth Empowerment and
Development Initiative in Uganda. The program aims to address exploitative child labor among youth (15-18) by helping them to develop marketable skills to secure employment, and by supporting their engagement as leaders in their local communities.

This position is contingent on funding./

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Strategic and technical leadership, with responsibility to ensure all program objectives are met 
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with Ugandan youth institutions 
  • Serve as primary liaison with donor(s) 
  • Coordinate with local, regional and international organizations active in the youth, education and civil society sectors 
  • Establish and maintain systems for project operations. 
  • Maintain working relationships with all project stakeholders. 
  • Manage and mentor project staff 
  • Coordinate with home office 
  • Oversee project budgeting and ensure budget discipline 
  • Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting on program activities 
  • Represent IREX publicly and support its organizational development
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, supervision, administration, and implementation of cooperative agreement and/or contract requirements (including meeting deadlines, achieving targets, and overseeing the preparation and submission of required reports). 
  • Experience in a leadership role in implementing development projects relevant to this solicitation. 
  • Experience in managing sub grants and successfully assisting indigenous organizations is strongly desired 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the political and economic situation in Uganda and of the current environment concerning youth 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and work on a multi-national and multi-partner team 
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with senior officials in government, with media and civic leaders, business people and international donors 
  • Outstanding English communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
